The urethra (TS:21-TS:28) links the bladder/primitive bladder to the outside of the embryo. At TS:21 it is part of the urinary system. The urethra becomes sex-specific from TS:23. It is subdivided into pelvic urethra (located within the body of the embryo) and phallic urethra of male/female (located within the genital tubercle).
