Preferred Name | labyrinthitis | |
Synonyms |
inner ear infection otitis interna internal ear inflammation inflammation of internal ear |
|
Definitions |
Inflammation of the inner ear. The cause is often not clear. It may be due to a virus, but it can also arise from bacterial infection, head injury, extreme stress, an allergy, or as a reaction to medication. Note that DO has distinct classes for both labyrinthitis and otitis interna. These are generally regarded as synonyms. We intentionally make these two classes equivalent. However, the DO class may potentially represent the infectious form, although the sub/superclass relationships are inverted if this is the case. |
