The thalamus is a centrally situated structure with extensive reciprocal connections with the cortex, basal ganglia and brainstem nuclei. Therefore it can mimic cortical and subcortical strokes in the anterior or posterior circulation and is also called “the great imitator”. Its vascularization is subdivided into four territories correlated with the organization of the thalamic nuclei: - the tuberothalamic (or polar) artery -the thalamogeniculate (or inferolateral) artery -the paramedian arteries -the posterior choroidal artery (PChA). |
