Progressive and life-threatening pulmonary distress in the absence of an underlying pulmonary condition, usually following major trauma or surgery. Cases of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome are not included in this definition. This disease can present as a mild ARDS (PaO2/FiO2 of 201–300 mmHg) moderate ARDS (PaO2/FiO2 of 101–200 mmHg) and severe ARDS (PaO2/FiO2 ≤100 mmHg). [PMID:30872586] |
