The largest cartilage of the larynx consisting of two laminae fusing anteriorly at an acute angle in the midline of the neck. The point of fusion forms a subcutaneous projection known as the Adam's apple. The largest of the laryngeal cartilages comprising two quadrilateral laminae that fuse to form a median elevation ("Adam's apple"). It lies inferior to the hyoid bone, its superior horn is attached to the tip of the greater horn of the hyoid bone, and its inferior horn articulates with the cricoid cartilage. |
