An IonChannel is a CBO:CellMembranePart that is a membrane bound protein that transfers ions across the Cell membrane against the natural diffusion gradient direction or transfers an ion across a membrane that would normally be impervious to the ion. MeSH: Membrane proteins whose primary function is to facilitate the transport of Molecules across a biological membrane. Included in this broad category are proteins involved in active transport ( BIOLOGICAL TRANSPORT, ACTIVE), facilitated transport and ION CHANNELS. GO: Enables the transport of a solute across a membrane via a narrow pore channel that opens in response to a particular stimulus. |
