An accident is ontologically dependent on the existence of a substance. It exists by inhering in something else by affecting, determining or modifying the thing it inheres. An accident can either inhere in a substance or in another accident which ultimately inheres in a substance . Substance is therefore ontologically prior to accidents as an accident does not subsist on its own. |
