A benign neoplasm comprised of a cyst, lined by mature epidermis-like tissue with dermal appendages. A benign hamartomatous tumor that possesses various epidermal derivatives and is due to sequestration of skin along the lines of embryonic closure. In neonates, it is most commonly congenital and located in the subcutaneous tissues of the head, neck, or trunk. A type of benign (not cancer) germ cell tumor (type of tumor that begins in the cells that give rise to sperm or eggs) that often contains several different types of tissue such as hair, muscle, and bone. |
