Encapsulation is a common immune reaction in insects against parasites or pathogens taht can also be induced by injection of expermental materials into the hemocoel. Cellular encapsulation can occur in two forms: (1) as nodule formation against small particulate material (e.g., bacteria), and (2) as capsule formation, which often occurs if the foreign object exceeds the size of phagocytic hemocytes. |
