Despite their epithelial origin, D17 cells exhibit a gene-expression profile that is consistent with that of Drosophila haemocytes. Similarly to haemocytes, D17 cells spontaneously polarize in culture, assemble an exaggerated leading edge and exhibit robust cell motility. |
