Preferred Name

egg

Definitions
Generally kidney-shaped, white to cream colored. The egg has two coats: an exochorion secreted by the colleterial glands and the endochorion secreted by the follicular cells. Unfertilized unovulated eggs contain oöplasm which is basophilic owing to the presence of RNA. Within the endochorion there is a peripheral periplasm, and within there are deuteroplasmic structures of variable size. Between the germinal vesicle and the periplasm is the oöplasm which appears like a network throughout the egg.
