Definitions
Granulocytes present a circular to fusiform profile 8-13 um in diameter. The plasma membrane is irregular displaying pseudopodia and philopodia in its surface. In electron micrographs, these hemocytes show important morphological characteristics. The lobated nucleus has a large mass of heterochomatin and an active nucleolus and a clear endocytic process with the presence of numerous coated vesicles and coated pits is present. Round or elongated mitochondria are also detected. The cytoplasm contains dilated RER, formation of polysomes and abundant ribosomes. Also, a well-developed Golgi complex displays large vesicle production.
