isDefinedBy | Cortical deafness is a rare condition occurring with bilateral temporal lobe lesions or with bilateral subcortical lesions interrupting the ascending auditory pathways. In cortical deafness, patients appear deaf, though some reflex responses such as turning toward a sudden loud sound may be preserved. With time, some auditory capacities may re-emerge.
