In angiosperms the endosperm is usually triploid and formed after fertilization by the fusion of one gamete with the polar nucleus (GO:0043078); sometimes diploid or polyploid. A portion of plant tissue (PO:0009007) which is a maximal portion of nutritive plant tissue in a seed (PO:0009010).
