scopeNote |
The application of discoveries generated by laboratory research and preclinical studies to the development of clinical trials and studies in humans. A second area of translational research concerns enhancing the adoption of best practices. MeSH UID: D057170 https://www.nlm.nih.gov/cgi/mesh/2016/MB_cgi Often described as an effort to carry scientific knowledge "from bench to bedside," translational medicine builds on basic research advances - studies of biological processes using cell cultures, for example, or animal models - and uses them to develop new therapies or medical procedures. Translational medicine is becoming ever-more interdisciplinary. For example, researchers need new computational approaches to deal with the large amounts of data pouring in from genomics and other fields, and as new advances in physics and materials science offer new approaches to study or diagnose medical conditions. http://www.sciencemag.org/site/marketing/stm/definition.xhtml RD |
