Description: A notable sign of dementia is the inability to encode and store new information received via the senses (encoding). New information is no longer transferred from working memory to long-term memory and recent events are forgotten (consolidation). This means that someone is no longer able to remember something they have just happened or been seen or heard. This is referred to as an ‘inprentingsstoornis’ or ‘imprinting disorder’ in Dutch and is frequently translated as such. After neuropsychological testing, a conclusion is drawn about whether a patient suffered from impaired imprinting.
