Preferred Name

ancrod

Definitions
A proteolytic enzyme and defibrinogenating agent derived from the venom of the Malayan pit viper, with profibrinolytic and anticoagulant activities. Upon administration, ancrod cleaves fibrinogen and releases A-fibrinopeptides. This inactivates fibrinogen and leads to a reduction in blood viscosity, increases blood flow and perfusion of the microcirculation. [url:http://purl.obolibrary.org/obo/NCIT_C95255]
