Scope Statement | Quantitative titer results for SARS Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus neutralizing antibodies in serum by pVNT (pseudovirus neutralization test). Neutralizing antibody testing is performed to determine whether the antibodies produced after SARS-CoV-2 infection or in response to a vaccination are able to neutralize the virus and prevent infection or re-infection. Different methods can be used to determine the presence of neutralizing antibodies, including VNT (virus neutralization test) and pVNT, which are represented in LOINC as the Method "Neutralization" and "pVNT", respectively. The pVNT method for SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibody testing uses recombinant pseudoviruses that incorporate the S protein from SARS-CoV-2, whereas VNT uses SARS-CoV-2 virus from a clinical isolate or recombinant SARS-CoV-2 expressing reporter proteins.
