Formal definition Infectious Disease Ontology (IDO): A host role borne by an organism (x) by virtue of the fact that it is participating in a process of symbiosis (GO:0044403) with an organism (y) that has the pathogenic disposition to organisms of type Z; x may be of type Z or another type. In the symbiosis process, y is bearer of the pathogen role. The role is realized in the processes that result in disease or death of an organism of type Z.
