This interaction is presumed to link NOD1:RIP2 to the IKK complex, ultimately leading to the phosphorylation of IkappaB-alpha and the activation of NF-kappaB (Inohara et al. 2000). Although every NOD molecule in the oligomeric complex is represented as binding RIP2, binding to every member of the complex may not be required for subsequent signaling events.
