Authored: Ray, KP, 2010-05-17 The interleukin 1 receptor antagonist protein (ILRAP or IL1RN) is a member of the IL1 family that binds to IL1R1 (and with much lower affinity IL1R2) but does not elicit a signaling response. By competing with IL1 for IL1R1 binding ILRAP acts as a natural antagonist, inhibiting the biological actions of both agonist forms of IL1 (IL1 alpha and IL1 beta).
