The Precentral Gyrus corresponds to the primary motor area of the cortex which controls voluntary movements of the contralateral half of the body, particularly the distal parts of the limbs. Structures: Brodmann’s Areas Central Sulcus Cerebrum Frontal Lobe Paracentral Lobule Precentral Sulcus Primary Motor Area Information: The precentral gyrus is located on the lateral surface of the frontal lobe. It contains the primary motor area and corresponds to Brodmann's area 4. It is bounded anteriorly by the precentral sulcus and posteriorly by the central sulcus. It extends onto the medial surface of the cerebrum where it forms the posterior part of the paracentral lobule. |
