Executive functions refer to the complex of behaviors involved in antipating, planning and formulating goals, self-monitoring as well as using feedback to guide and modify behavior. This domain is considered to be an essential component of neuropsychological testing. Specific executive functions include verbal and conceptual reasoning, generating problem-solving strategies, planning and formulating abstractions, managing multiple tasks at the same time, set shifting and the ability to ignore competing stimuli while focusing on relevant task demands.
