DEFINITION |
A carcinoma arising from the epithelium of the renal parenchyma (renal cell carcinoma) or the renal pelvis (renal pelvis carcinoma). The vast majority of renal cell carcinomas are adenocarcinomas. The vast majority of renal pelvis carcinomas are transitional cell carcinomas. Renal carcinomas usually affect middle aged and elderly adults. Hematuria, abdominal pain, and a palpable mass are common symptoms. -- 2004 |
