Expressed as 2 alternative isoforms in pituitary, ovary, testis, breast, and prostate by human GNRHR Gene (GPCR1 Family), Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone Receptor is a cell surface G protein-coupled 7-transmembrane-domain receptor that transduces signals from hypothalamic decapeptide GNRH by association with G proteins that activate a calcium-phosphatidylinositol second messenger system. A neuroregulator of reproduction, the primary site of GNRH action is pituitary gonadotropes, which express GNRH receptors that modulate synthesis and secretion of gonadotropic hormones LH and FSH, which regulate gametogenic and hormonal functions of gonads. GNRHR Isoform 2 may act as an inhibitor of GNRHR signaling.
