| DesignNote | Encoded BIRC4 Gene (IAP Family), Baculoviral IAP Repeat-Containing Protein 4 inhibits apoptosis through binding to TNF Receptor-associated factors TRAF1 and TRAF2. Similar to BIRC2, BIRC4 inhibits apoptosis induced by menadione, a potent inducer of free radicals, and ICE. BIRC4 also specifically inhibits cell-death proteases, caspase-3 and caspase-7. A novel transcript homologous to BIRC4 is expressed solely in the testis.
