| DesignNote | Prostatic acid phosphatase is proteolytically cleaved in seminal fluid, which produces several peptides. One peptide, PAPf39 a 39 amino acid peptide comprised of residues 248-286, forms fibrils resembling amyloid beta-sheets. This peptide is also known as SEVI (semen-derived enhancer of viral infection) because the fibrils bind to HIV (and possibly other) virions and promote viral attachment to and infection of target cells. (UniProt)
Prostatic acid phosphatase precursor catalyzes the conversion of orthophosphoric monoester to alcohol and orthophosphate. ACPP is synthesized under androgen regulation and secreted by the epithelial cells of the prostrate gland. (EntrezGene)
