| DesignNote | Is a 37 kDa protein that expressed in many types of long-lived cells. Mcl-1 protein is found in mitochondrial and other membranes also. Mcl-1 appears to function as a repressor of apoptotic cell death. It interacts with Bax, a protein promoting cell death. Overproduction of Mcl-1 can delay cell death by apoptosis associated with growth factor withdrawal, overexpression of the myc oncogene, or treatment with cytotoxic agents.
