| ALT_DEFINITION | A protein on the surface of some cells that binds to biologic substance called stem cell factor (SCF). SCF causes certain types of blood cells to grow. The stem cell factor receptor is found at high levels or in a changed form on some types of cancer cells. This may cause these cells to grow rapidly when SCF is present. The stem cell factor receptor is a type of receptor tyrosine kinase.
