| DesignNote | AR has 3 domains: N-terminal modulating (exon 1), DNA-binding (two C4 Zinc fingers, exons 2-3), and C-terminal hormone-binding (5 remaining exons). Polymorphic N-terminal poly-Gln tracts bind RAN, enhancing transactivation; decreased with increased poly-Gln length. An 87-kD (AR-A) isoform lacks a normal N-terminus, seen in the 110 kD (AR-B) form; A and B may differ in function. Ligand bound receptor translocates to the nucleus, homodimerizes, binds DNA, and stimulates transcription.
