Definitions:

A protein that is a translation product of the TRPM8 gene. TRPM8 is a member of the subfamily M of the transient receptor potential cation channels (TRPs). In common with other TRPs, these proteins have amino- and carboxyl-terminal intracellular domains separated by a domain containing six transmembrane helices (S1-S6) in which the last two helices (S5 and S6) flank a loop, called the pore loop, which determines ion selectivity.nTRPM8 forms a nonselective cation channel that is activated by cold and by menthol and other substances that produce the sensation of coolness. These channels exhibit voltage-dependance and regulation by phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2).
