Definitions |
The "Gene" concept allows to classify a unit of DNA sequence which can be potentially transcribed and/or translated (this definition includes the regulating elements in 5' and 3', and introns, if present). The Gene leafconcepts are named by the gene names. In IMGT-ONTOLOGY, a gene name is composed of the name of the species (or the short name encoded by 6 or 9 characters) and of the international HGNC/IMGT gene symbol. By extension, orphons and pseudogenes are also Gene concepts. |
