The definition of a compound requires a fixed ratio. Thus table salt, NaCl, is a compound but not a molecule, cecause it is composed of 2 or more elements in a fixed ratio (1:1, satisfying the definition of a compound) but does not have a well-defined number of atoms (so it does not meet the criteria for a molecule).
